Dr. Kothari’s vision for a healthy movement
The providers at Capital Women’s Care Hagerstown are concerned with the troubling obesity trend facing not only our nation but also our local community. A national survey ranked Hagerstown as the fifth most obese community in the country. This statistic and the concern for our community resulted in Dr. Mitesh Kothari bringing together a group of doctors, health professionals, educators, and personal trainers to server as the board of directors for a new non-profit dedicated to changing this trend.
H.E.A.L. (Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles) is dedicated to working toward prevention of obesity for a healthier community. The board of H.E.A.L quickly identified that one of the reasons that Hagerstown’s numbers were
so severe was a lack of free help for overweight people. Taking a proactive approach to deal with this problem was to offer programs such as Fitwalks. Fitwalks, features a personal trainer leading walkers around the Hagerstown Fairgrounds each Saturday morning. H.E.A.L also features a Health Talk lecture series that highlights a new topic every month. Subjects range from tips on exercise to healthy cooking demonstrations.
